The Sport of Steam

April 18, 2012

So late with today’s post. I feel awful.

However, for you Steam Sport fans out there, this is the update for you! I settled on a Hunter and I do say I rather like him, though he’s a bit rough around the edges for now.

It’s been a bit hard to write lately for a variety of reasons. I’m not as clean as I would like and I’ve been having more shaking fits in the morning, which doesn’t help. Some life stress (and my laptop screen still being broken) has been interrupting my normal writing reverie. I’ll try my damndest to keep the focus on getting good work to you, my readers, three times a week though.

So, on to the story!

This is the first part of my history of Royan, and it is the killing of the gods.

Royan is a specifically atheistic world where the gods and their religions are snuffed out because of their danger to the world around them. It is a classical fantasy world where the magic is separated into scientific Schools and the wizards are accorded positions of power as trusted instructors and engineers of the threads of reality.

The first part of the story of the death of the gods centers on the Dwarves, the oldest of the many races.

This is the first chapter of Out of Thyme, a novel I’ve been trying to write since November. This is not, however, the novel I started for NaNoWriMo – I still have that version but this is a rewrite. Different beginning, different style, different feel. Changing how I’m approaching the characters. I hope you like it.

In other news, there’s a possibility that I may be shopping for investors soon. Looking forward to that. I still need all of the help I can get for the mean time, though, so if you’ve got a few dollars to spare please consider Donating or Subscribing to The Writing Engine on your Kindle. It’s all greatly appreciated.

Also, this post is prepared ahead of time and I’m telling you this and ruining the illusion because I’m seeing The Hunger Games tonight and I’m very, very excited. I will probably be exuberant about it tomorrow if you catch me on G+, Facebook, or Twitter. I read the entire trilogy a few weeks ago and I loved it. The movie looks amazing. I’m kind of squeeing, at least as much as my sardonic and stoic countenance can squee.

To the story!

By that I mean I do not have any finished writing available to post today. But I do have something really raw that I’ll post. It’s what I’m working on for a fantasy fiction contest. I could use the prize money and, well, exposure right?

This is The Grey Paladin, a fantasy story that I’m doing a lot of world building for and something I’m playing with ideas for. So, I hope you enjoy it but please remember that this is really, really raw.

This is the first chapter in a serial I’m preparing for publication through various eBook channels. It’s still in editing phase so it’s rougher than the final print version will be.

But I believe in offering my drafts to my readers. So, enjoy!

This is some urban fantasy I’ve been toying with. I’m not really proud of it but it’s something.

Hope someone does enjoy it, though.

Viva la Revolucion!

January 12, 2012

Sometimes when I look at a piece, specifically stuff in the Steampunk genre, it collides with other ideas. This is the beginning, the seeds if you will, of a steampunk French revolution. I think. It’s also a love story between two boys who grew into men during the most awful time in their country’s history. I hope.

The Lonely Mechanist

January 5, 2012

This is a piece I’m rather proud of. It’s a but autobiographical and it’s inspired by a myth, but I think it’s rather beautiful in its own way.

This is Pygmalion.
